Student Outreach
GCGA provides student outreach programs to Houston-area schools and colleges through classroom demonstrations, performances, workshops, and master classes led by accomplished musicians and educators. These programs enrich students’ study of classical guitar, encourage continued musical exploration, and reinforce existing music education programs.
GCGA also maintains relationships with the University of Houston's Moores School of Music and Del Mar College through the academic appointments and professional leadership of its Artistic Directors. These collaborations connect students, faculty, and guest artists in ways that benefit both the participating institutions and the broader community.
Through student outreach programs, GCGA expands access to advanced learning opportunities and distinguished artists, enabling students to continue their musical development within their academic environments. Many students continue their musical studies, become educators themselves, or remain lifelong participants in the classical guitar community.
Community Outreach
GCGA provides outreach programs in retirement communities and healthcare facilities throughout the greater Houston area. These programs bring high-quality live classical guitar performances directly to audiences who may not otherwise have access to them, including residents, patients, families, caregivers, and other community members in retirement and healthcare settings.
These interactive programs support healing and emotional well-being by fostering shared musical experiences, encouraging connection and conversation, and providing moments of comfort and reflection. By integrating live music into healthcare and community environments, GCGA expands access to the arts, strengthening the role of music in daily life and across all stages of life.
Concerts
GCGA presents concerts throughout the year featuring acclaimed classical guitarists from the United States and abroad. These performances provide audiences with access to high-quality artistic experiences that highlight the expressive range, cultural diversity, and technical artistry of the classical guitar.

Houston Classical Guitar Festival & Competition
The Houston Classical Guitar Festival & Competition (HCGFest) is GCGA’s flagship educational program. HCGFest brings together students, educators, performers, and guitar enthusiasts for six days of intensive classical guitar study, performance, and artistic exchange.
GCGA provides private lessons, master classes, workshops, lectures, and performance opportunities at HCGFest led by distinguished guest artists and educators. The festival also includes a competition that supports artistic development and provides competitors with structured performance experience in a professional adjudicated setting.
Throughout the festival, participants engage with distinguished guest artists, strengthen their musicianship, and connect with a community of guitarists from across the United States and beyond. HCGFest concludes with public performances featuring acclaimed guest artists, offering Houston audiences access to world-class classical guitar.
Through scholarships and affordable housing partnerships, GCGA reduces financial barriers and expands access to the festival for students from diverse backgrounds, enabling them to participate in this transformative educational experience.
