Gulf Coast Guitar Association Names Jeremy García Co-Artistic Director Alongside Dr. Jay Kacherski

June 27, 2026 — The Gulf Coast Guitar Association (GCGA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Jeremy García as Co-Artistic Director, serving alongside Dr. Jay Kacherski in shaping the organization’s artistic vision and expanding its impact throughout the region and beyond.

Together, García and Kacherski will lead the artistic direction of both the Gulf Coast Guitar Association and the internationally recognized Houston Classical Guitar Festival & Competition, building on the organization’s legacy of presenting world-class performances, educational initiatives, and opportunities for emerging artists.

Jeremy García, Affiliate Professor of Guitar at the University of Houston’s Moores School of Music, is an internationally acclaimed classical and flamenco guitarist, award-winning composer, educator, and recording artist who has performed with leading orchestras and organizations across the United States and Europe. Recent highlights include performances with the Moores Symphony Orchestra, Houston Grand Opera, and Grammy® Award-winning ensemble Apollo’s Fire during its 2024–2025 tour of Hispania! – A Voyage from Spain to the Americas. García also performed for Her Majesty Queen Sofía of Spain at the Queen Sofía Spanish Institute Gala.

Dr. Jay Kacherski, Assistant Professor of Music at Del Mar College, is an internationally recognized soloist, chamber musician, and Fulbright Scholar whose performances have been praised by critics for their “virtuosismo” and “technical dominance.” He has performed throughout the Americas, Europe, and Asia and has appeared at leading festivals and concert series including Semana Internacional de la Guitarra (Chile), GuitUNAM (Mexico City), Casa Sors (Barcelona), and the International Guitar Art Festival (Shenzhen, China). His acclaimed recordings on Frameworks Records—including Synthesis: 20th & 21st Century Guitar Music from Mexico and Landscapes, with pianist Lina Morita—have received widespread critical praise for their artistry and commitment to expanding the guitar repertoire.

Together, García and Kacherski bring complementary artistic perspectives, extensive international experience, and decades of leadership in performance and education. Their shared vision will continue to strengthen the Gulf Coast Guitar Association’s mission of promoting classical guitar education and performance, nurturing creativity and artistic growth, building an inclusive community, and cultivating appreciation for the guitar in all its forms.

The Gulf Coast Guitar Association looks forward to an exciting future under the leadership of its two Co-Artistic Directors, whose combined expertise promises to elevate the organization’s programming while honoring its longstanding commitment to artistic excellence and community engagement.
